Helping children in crisis
UNICEF works to improve the lives of children and their families. Despite remarkable challenges around the world, UNICEF fights for the rights of every child seeking safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflicts, and equality. To support UNICEF’s cause, EC Markets has contributed £25,000 to UNICEF’s emergency response efforts, helping deliver essential aid such as healthcare, nutrition, education, clean water, and protection.

In Madagascar, the first round of the Supplementary Immunization Activities against polio took place from May 14 to 17, 2024, in all regions, with the support of UNICEF and its partners. According to the ministry of Public Health, the four rounds of the polio vaccination campaign in 2023 enabled over five million children aged 0-59 months to be vaccinated, achieving an administrative coverage of 99.8%. During the last round of the same year, over 13 million children under the age of 15 received the polio vaccine. These results have had a significant impact on transmission management, as no cases of polio have been detected in the country for the past six months. The two rounds planned for 2024 aim to reinforce these achievements. As in previous campaigns, in addition to vaccinations at public and private primary health clinics, mobile teams went door-to-door in all communities and schools to vaccinate all children. In Madagascar, the vaccination of children is supported by partner-donors, including Gavi, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the Embassy of France, Rotary International, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
